Afraid To Be Bored

I’m afraid of the silence, afraid of what I’ll find,
afraid of the thoughts that might enter my mind,
In today’s society, being bored doesn’t seem to be an option,
We aren’t encouraged to look within.

I scroll through my LinkedIn,
God forbid, I put my phone down, that’s a cardinal sin,
How many views did my last blog post receive,
because I’ve got goals I’m trying to achieve.

One of my friends just had a baby, Facebook told me so,
Deeper and deeper down this rabbit hole I will go,
what else is happening around the world,
Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, god it’s all beginning to swirl.

My brain is overwhelmed, most of the information is pointless,
several hours of my day have once again been flushed down the toilet,
I’m declaring to take back my life,
This won’t be something I tweet, this is real life.
