Apple

A metaphor

There’s an apple. Big, bright and beautiful on the outside.

You cannot see how its rotting on the inside.

You think of taking a small bite but decide to wait and try it later.

After some time, it starts spoiling on the outside too. It’s visibly harmful now.

You feel bad. You sometimes think of how you wanted to eat the apple and what if you ate it when it looked ripe and beautiful? Now that you know it’s rotten and oozing out poison, you don’t want it anymore.

Are you at fault for not wanting it? Do you think it wouldn’t rot if you took a bite? Do you really think it’s a missed opportunity?

No, it’s not, because it would rot anyway and poison you.

What’s on the inside, eventually starts showing on the outside.

You did not see the damage but chose not to have it. Now that you know it was poisonous, will you regret not tasting it at all?

Of course not.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for not wanting things that are way past their expiry date.

You are not wrong for realizing the truth slightly late and letting go of what you thought you wanted.

“All that glitters is not gold.”

What you wanted did not exist in the first place. It just had a fake, misleading, shiny exterior.

Maybe you are just someone who tries to see the good in everything and everyone.

The apple cannot go back to its original perceived state and the way you look at it can never be the same again.

The best thing to do is to not dwell upon the shiny appearance it had in the past. You have to see and accept what it is showing you at present. You have to realize how it could make you fall sick.

There’s no point holding on to the decaying mess. The truth did come to the surface before it was too late, so consider yourself blessed.

Be grateful for your intuition that stopped you from having it. Be grateful to the higher power that was trying to protect you.

You will come across many shiny new apples… some good, some bad, some half-rotten but one day you will find the one that is truly and wholly beautiful on the inside as well.

Learn to let go of the rotten apples.
