We planned months before and sought out good deals
And flew Virgin Airways though they didn’t serve meals
To fly us to Cairns, where we’d stay at the “Lakes Resort.”
For a blissful holiday, or that’s what we thought.

Before we left on our trip, arrangements were made.
A house sitter for our dog and if he requires a vet
Should he sneeze or catch his death of cold
Contingencies to take were written and told

After arrangements had been made and last-minute details done
When the packing was finished, we were off on the run
Down to meet our flight in Sydney, caught in traffic jams
Then frisked for bombs at Customs like sacrificial lambs

When the frisking was done, we had coffee and tea.
And were herded onto the Aircraft and squeezed between three
The woman seated next to me brought anger aboard
And she slammed the armrest down on my leg like a sword.
