Breaking Day

Beauty in fast breaking day
Sky, brilliant orange and red,
Sun begins its stark ascent,
A few remaining birds fly by
Seeking path to warmer south.

Anticipations of what is to come
How my day becomes complete
Other scenes that I might see,
Enlightening thoughts I may have
Musing about what is present now.

Reading old words of ancient sages
Wisdom in what they saw and thought
Meaningful philosophies they held,
Learning from our past and present
Alertness to what happens now.

Fortunate presence to this moment
Seeing such beauty in breaking day,
Deeply appreciating what I see.
