We went to visit my extended family in the Greater D.C. area for the winter holidays.

My brother and I decided to go for a leisurely stroll around his neighborhood on a gorgeous evening.

We bundled up in our parkas, beanies, and shawls and ventured out into the freezing night air.

We were having a good conversation and getting some exercise when we came across what appeared to be, at first glance, a tiny dog on the other side of the street.

It was difficult to see properly in the dim light, but I managed to point out the small animal to my brother. Upon inspection, he exclaimed that he believed it was a fox rather than a dog.

Our mouths were agape, and our eyes were wide open. We came to a halt in our tracks. We debated whether to continue on our current path or to turn around.
