Creative writing can be an exciting journey for young minds. It encourages kids to unleash their imaginations while honing essential language skills. Over the last few years, I‘ve learned much about teaching and storytelling as a creative writing educator. Here are five cool ways to teach creative writing to kids. I hope you like them.

1. Story Cubes

One effective way to ignite creativity is through story cubes. These colorful dice come with various images on each side and can inspire unique narratives. For instance, if a child rolls a story cube showing a dragon, a treasure chest, and a rainbow, they might craft a tale about a dragon who guards a magical treasure at the end of a rainbow. It’s a randomizer, in a sense, allowing students to build imagination.
