How To Go Forward

Seldom does my better half put her two cents in on matters of politics, so when she does, I listen. Here is Jo’s take on the state of affairs in which we find ourselves.
The onslaught of divisiveness is on the rise more today than it was even before the election. Because now, those who voted for Trump feel compelled to justify their choice even louder. We have personally been called “stupid” and “uninformed” because we watch news from sources other than Fox (which in Fox’s own words is “entertainment” and not news). A neighbor gloated about voting for Trump and all that he stands for and how glad he was that he won. That’s his choice. The same individual laughed at us for stating facts about inflation and how it works which did not match his narrative. He described us as “liars” for stating the obvious….that Trump is a convicted felon, a rapist and a racist. “No, he said, “you’ve got it all wrong, the jury was rigged and the rest is all “fake news”. Wow! I mean what can one do with that??? He did so in our home and we asked him to leave. That was our choice. He was taken aback by that.
Being divisive isn’t the answer, yet, how is one to pretend that those who believe themselves to be kind and decent members of society voted for a vile individual who represents the polar opposite of the values and principles we were taught as children, to be kind and decent members of society as adults?
Is there a balance? Can someone who voted against humanity and decency also be a kind and decent member of society? Do we overlook the hypocrisy to avoid more divisiveness? Do we speak out against the injustice and inhumane practices, or do we all just bury our heads in the sand and pretend that this is all okay? Where do the lines of divisiveness meet to form a community; or is it all just a facade now? Time will tell the fate of our country and the future of our grandchildren. We can only follow our own path and be guided by our own values.
