In the Wake of The Dream
A letter to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
Dear Dr. King, who led with dream and deed
Your fertile voice sowed freedom’s seed
In this humble poem, I seek to convey
The enduring legacy you left on display
You marched in streets, not yet free from night
With a dream of dawn, a future so bright
Your words, like rapids, flowed with truth
Feeding trees of change, bearing freedom’s fruit
From mountaintops you saw the promised land
A world united, hand in hand
You spoke of a dream, where children play
Unshackled by color, in the light of day
Your courage, a beacon in history’s gale
A testament of love, against hatred’s veil
In times of despair, your vision stood tall
A symphony of peace and freedom for all
In letters from a Birmingham cell
Flowing with equality’s story to tell
Your words, a compass in a world astray
Guiding us toward humility every day
Dr. King, may you rest in peace
Your dream lives on, it shall never cease
Acts of kindness, in equality’s song
In every fight for justice, your legacy lives on
Even today, where shadows still fall
Your dream, a lighthouse, beckons us all
To stand for justice, to love, to strive
To walk together, keep the dream alive
Oh, Dr. King, in this letter of mine
I thank you for the path you’ve defined
Your journey of courage, an unwavering stand
Continues to inspire in this evolving land
In the fabric of time, your brilliant thread
A time capsule for hope, where your footsteps led
Thank you, Dr. King, for the dream you spun
For the battles fought, and victories won
