It’s all Coming Together
A story of resilience and passion
I remember sitting in an empty theater talking with my business partner about how people weren’t showing up to our open mics one night in early 2022. I remember how sad and exhausted I sounded as I whined to him about the fact that I felt unsupported in our community.
I was ready to give up. I am prepared to stop putting on events, stick to the 9–5, and give up on one of my passions. I remember him listening and telling me, “Just stay the course; it’s going to work out.”
As an impatient person, I can tell you now how frustrating studying the course feels. Yet, with a sad sigh, I did, and now fast forward two years later, and I have the biggest poetry showcase in my region, and I am growing faster.
It wasn't without struggle, but it was worth it. Although grueling at times, the journey bore fruit from which I’m eating swell.
How did I do it?
I stayed consistent. Hosting open mics monthly, cultivating poets, media personalities, talents, and followers, creating space for a tree to grow.
Every month, we showed up, whether there was one person or 100 people. We are hosting an event that can consistently hold 50–200 people for a poetry show that will surely be a mainstay in the area.
