I used to think that “growing up”
Was just a progression of independence
The freedom to do this and that
Go here and there
Be whoever you want to be
But “growing up” means to face
The undeniably mortality
Of not just yourself
But those around you
To realise that even though you know
That time is finite
It’s rarely ever allowed
to run it’s full course
