My Invisible Wall

A poem

I’ve hidden inside myself so long
That I can’t find my way out.
I’ve been so afraid that
I can never measure up
That I hide from anyone
Who may hold the key to breaking
Into me and my secrets, my sins.

The hurts I’ve given.
The harm I’ve caused,
Even intentionally at times.
What will happen if I let someone
Break down my wall,
And see my real self?
Will they stay? Can I trust?

Finally I knocked down
The invisible wall myself.
The key to breaking through
All my fear was me.
Who I was is not who I am.
My soul rules now
Ensuring who I will be.
