Peaches

A poem about the cycle of life…

Photo by Jared Subia on Unsplash

When I was younger,
I used to wonder
What it would be like
To see lives pass
Before me.

A parade of family, friends
And people I used to know…
At random they seemed to go,

Not in any particular order,
Not like in a row,
Lined up behind one another,
You know who’s next.

But more like peaches
On a large full tree…
Some are chosen
Some fall and roll,
Some are left to dry and rot.

What makes this order?
How are we to know
Who becomes pie
Pit or soil
From this life we sow?
