Warm summer nights
Breezes heading west off the river
Winds that have travelled past a hundred tropical islands,
bearing the fragrance of lost days and sandy beaches

We sit watching a summer rain blow through,
feet on the railing
cool wine in chilled glasses,
holding hands as the light fades into the perfect summer night,
your head on my shoulder,
nothing in the world can touch us now,
just you, me and the warmth of your love

This is my favorite time of day,
Where the mad world gives way to quiet love
Out of touch,
out of mind,
nowhere to go,

no one needing us,
as if for just this moment the world belongs to us

We sit long after the sun had given way to the night
Full moon rising in the east over the far bank,
now hidden in the dark except for the glow of a few dock lights
Moonlight so bright you can see small boats coasting down the river
Soft music drifting over the water
