Reading As a Writer

A poem

--

Often we writers find ourselves reading
books of acclaimed authors
feeling helplessly spellbound reading
with the entire vocabulary & craft
only to find —

Rhythm in the para,
an epilogue giving a heartache,
words fluid & real,
sentences coming alive- personification,
art of a sentence,
blending daily objects, making it so real,
punctuation, a simile,
an alliteration & a repetition,
making us wonder,
how many times the sentence was rewritten,
to be a perfect blend of words ,
giving rise to emotions.

A realization to soon,
these books
are not just inked pages,
but are carriers of history,
a civilization,
an era gone by
to experience the times
we cannot time travel to!

Author’s Note: I always felt we writers reader books in a slightly different way than a regular reader. This poem is a depiction of the variance we writers think as we read books, assimilate & absorb the content into our heart & mind.
