Should Marriage Have a Shelf Life?

Factual, down-to-earth conversation would be how I would describe what was happening at the end of the table where I was sitting at a bridal shower last night.
It was not ill-intended. It was not a criticism of what our friend in the spotlight was about to embark herself into. It was simply the way a small group of women concluded society should be challenged based on their collective experiences, and what could save many others that would follow the heartbreak and aggravation.
Was this a good sampling of what exists in society nowadays?
Maybe. If we look at statistics, it may well be. You have mainstream thinking, and then a small portion at “the end of the table” that feels that enough is enough. We are born and raised with standards and stigmas, and if we deviate from “the norm”, we are short of marked with the scarlet letter. Isn’t that why many have to keep their desires a secret? Or why so many people can’t “come out of the closet”?
This is not an ode to divorce
I stayed quiet during this dialogue mostly because, while I could hear it clearly, I was not sitting close enough to chime in. But I agreed with these women 100%. The interesting…
