Why should I care what other people think of me? I am who I am. And who I wanna be. — Avril Lavigne

As I turn 38 today, I reflect on my life and realize that I have come a long way ahead.

Growing up as a child, I did celebrate my birthdays. My mother used to gift me a dress and this ritual was followed by a small birthday party in the evening. I didn’t have many friends back then.

Now as a grown-up woman, I am like what’s so special about birthdays. I no longer wait for birthdays because now I know any day could be my last. So, I tend to follow my heart and spirit more.

I am thankful that I exist and am doing my part in raising awareness about DV. I am thankful because I know my limbs are intact and my body is healthy to bear all the brunt's of life. I am thankful because I am becoming wiser, kinder, and more focused in life.

With this note and picture, I am smiling as I can still feel my younger self so alive and brave in spirit. I hope to keep this small and cute girl safe in my hands as it has always been my responsibility while I believed otherwise.
