On choice
Often,
there is this need to prove we are something.
— Something we are not? —
What are the levels of choice?
Are we what we do not want?
These multiple identities
for the external observer.
I am all these men, all these spirits.
All these banshees,
crying-howling in the night.
Yes, I am all of them and more.
Care to find me,
hiding under this rock,
or shining on the night sky.
Sometimes, I joke when arriving at work:
“Of all the possible realities presented to me before I woke up, I chose this one.”
There is a humorous sarcasm indicated in my voice.
“I could have woken up in Bora-Bora or the Maldives. Having a margarita on hand and an infinity pool in sight. But instead, I chose to come to work.”
