The ‘Yes and No’ list of Adulthood
Blank Verse Poem
Yes I get mad when they rearrange the counters of the grocery store,
No I’m not upgrading my phone until it stops working
Yes I get a kick when I see fresh vegetables and shiny fruits,
No I do not want to go out and meet people
Yes I still want a princess cake on my birthday till I’m 90,
No I don’t need to dress to impress
Yes weekends and weekdays are just days of a routine I didn’t sign up for,
No you shouldn’t have to fight to be loved
Yes I can’t sleep if the slippers lie on top of another till I put them back
No stealing from Mom doesn’t count, she does it too when I’m not looking
Yes I’m afraid of falling and breaking my bones
No I’m not going to pretend to like someone or something I don’t
Yes I will buy me flowers and smile even if no one’s looking
No I’m not afraid to die but to only half live
Thank you for reading and for your time. All your love and comments bring a lot of joy.
As I grow a year older this month, I think of my life so far and the years seem to have just zoomed by. From so many lessons learnt the hard way, to so many blessings I never saw coming, my heart is full of gratitude and peace. We never know how much time we have left in this perpetual temporary place. For everything I have lost and for everything that is yet to come, I look at life from a long shot. And smile, even if no one’s looking.
