Bluekiri assisted the VMworld held every year in Barcelona. This fair organised by VMware, let us know first hand, all New Technologies introduced by each supplier.

HPE, for example, introduced its new composable hardware known as SYNERGY.

This frame allows you to connect from computing enclosures, as well as storage, with the versatility to create each infrastructure, depending on what is required.

With Image Streamer, you can modify each blade behavior, defining at any time why do you want to use it for. As an example, blade 1 can be an ESX hypervisor during the week, and an OpenStack computing node at the weekend.

The mentioned fair offers a wide variety of presentations. Some of the most interesting presentations we assisted ( mind, the limited assistance) are:

Session 1: Enterprise-Grade Kubernetes on OpenStack

This session pointed out OpenStack as a future option as a business strategy for VMWare. It was also presented how through VIO, VMWare supported the implementation of Kubernetes over OpenStack (As per the presentation, this is the preferred option for clients when implementing Kubernetes). All structure is based in SDN implementation as one of the most popular products in these NSX sessions.

Session 2: Full-Stack Automation: Streamlining, Delivering and Managing App-Centric IT

This session was highly guided to offer a demo and a clear explanation about vRealize Automation and the high-level options it offers. Maybe, it was not as technical as we expected, but it was interesting for those unaware of Blueprint and the product’s capabilities.

Session 3: Operationalize Your World: Moving Your Operations Closer to Your Architectures

It was an interesting presentation by E1 about creating simple dashboards which, in spite of its simplicity, are powerful since they can offer distinct views, not only for the company but also from the users who may wish to use the virtualised infrastructure. It was highlighted the importance of SLA definition and performance, as well as for Availability SLA. S

Sesión 4: vSphere Virtual Volumes made easy with Pure Storage

Session 4 was mainly devoted to prove Pure Storage products versatility when being used with VVols. This tech talk included a practical demonstration about VVols usage within Pure Storage.
Obviously, the applications of the products shown must be evaluated (replication, performance, Policy management, migrations…) compared with other storage providers.

Session 5: Virtualizing and Tuning in Memory Databases

This exhibition was really appealing introducing the best practices for operating, especially, architecturing and, scaling virtual machines to solve In-Memory databases. Configuration advises were slightly Java World-oriented, but they were mostly applicable for any kind of product.

Session 6: Delivering Infrastructure as a Code: Practical Tips and Advice

This was probably, the most unsatisfactory performance, where VMWare shew evidence of being in an early and incomplete feedback collection by users to clearly roadmap infrastructure as a Code.

After a theoretical explanation about laaC, the presentation continued questioning assistants about technologies used, and their current, different implementation levels and the methodology followed to adopt them.
