Take a look at some of our stellar projects from last spring and how they’ve been driving change in the community (Part 2)

Last week, we shared updates from 3 of our spring projects. Here’s a look at 2 more incredible projects and their growth over the last few months.

1. Foodshift

Foodshift works to reduce food waste by channeling extra resources to areas in need.

Blueprint’s Project

At the end of last semester, we were finalizing a new app for Foodshift’s team to manage food donations. This new portal would allow more visibility and coordination for on-demand deliveries, including scheduled pick-ups and donor lists to choose from.

Although the app has not been deployed yet with Foodshift, the tool has been completed by Blueprint’s team. All the functionalities are available in the demo tool, which is being reevaluated by the nonprofit for further implementation. With that, we are done building our contribution to reducing food waste in the Bay Area!

Foodshift Leading Food Waste Leadership

As Foodshift continues to explore partnerships with food suppliers in the Bay Area, they are also actively engaging in conversations with communities to raise awareness and participation in food redistribution initiatives.

From working in Santa Clara County to analyze areas for improvement to participating in conferences, Foodshift is actively leading the conversation on how people can help reduce food waste. Check out their most recent progress here to stay updated with their progress!

2. Watershed

The Watershed Project works to protect local ecosystems and restore habitats to their natural state.

Blueprint’s Project

Blueprint’s team worked to create a management mobile app to streamline volunteering efforts for Watershed’s team. With features to record new volunteer sites and track clean-up progress, this app would help keep track of the success Watershed is creating across the Bay Area.

A mock-up for Watershed’s mobile app.

Currently, we are finalizing all of the features Watershed needs to operate efficiently. Since developing the app has continued from last spring through the summer, we hope to fully deploy the app within the upcoming months.

Watershed’s Engagement With the Community

Watershed is continuing to work with multiple stakeholders to help preserve watersheds surrounding the San Francisco Bay. By organizing volunteer sessions and educating community members about the importance of wetlands, Watershed aims to involve locals who care deeply about their surrounding environment.

For interested volunteers, Watershed is coordinating a Coastal Clean Up Day on September 19th. Find out how you can participate and help keep Contra Costa watersheds natural here!

Thank you for reading about our nonprofit partners! Stay tuned for more info about Blueprint’s work this fall.
