僕はデザイン会社を始めてから、毎年デザインを学ぶ時間を作って色々な場所へ行くようになりました。これまでフィレンツェ、ベネツィア、瀬戸内芸術祭、パリ、バルセロナ、札幌国際芸術祭、パリ、ロンドン、ミラノ、ニューヨーク… Since I started designing company, I have made time to learn design every year. Florence, Venice, Setouchi Art Festival, Paris, Barcelona, Sapporo International Art Festival, Paris, London, Milan, New York ….
そもそもの発端はデザイン事務所に勤めてた頃、「10周年はイタリアにデザイン研修に行こう！」とボスが言ってた事。その頃は、なんでイタリアに行くのか？行ったら何があるのか？まで思いは至らなかったのだけど、頭の片隅にはいつもそれがあって、「うまく行ってるデザイン会社はそういうことをするんだろうなあ」と漠然と思っていました。 Originally when I worked at the design office, what the boss said, “Let’s go to design training for Italy for the tenth anniversary!” At that time, why are you going to Italy? What am I going to do? I did not understand. But I was curious. I will go to Italy if my achievement is good. I thought vaguely.
あれから15年強が過ぎ、あの頃のボスの歳に近づき「きっとこんな思いを抱いていたのかな？」というのが、なんとなくわかるような年齢になりました。 Fifteen years have passed since then. I became the boss’ s age back then. Perhaps he was thinking about such a thing.
自分のデザインに価値をつけるとは？ What is it that adds value to My Design ?
自分の仕事（デザイン）に価値をつけたいとずっと思っています。I always think that I want to add value to my work (design).
価値ってなに？What is value?
想像の枠を広げたり、深掘ったり、奥行きを出してあげられるようなこと。It exceeds the frame of imagination. Think deeply. To bring out the depth.
それができるには？How can I do it?
物事を良く知ってないといけないだろう。It is need to know things well.
物事を見つめる目を持たないといけないだろう。It will have to have good eyes to look at things.
そのためには？What should I do?
良質なものをたくさん見ないといけないだろう。（そのためには貪欲でいよう）It will have to see lots of good quality things. (Let’s be greedy for that)
良質なインプット無くして、良質なアウトプットはないだろう。 Without good quality inputs, there would be no good output.
そのための時間とお金はできるだけ使おう。 Let’s spend time and cost for that.
そういう思いでデザイン会社を経営してから、年に一度はデザイン研修をしています。 With that kind of thought, I continue design traveling.
何を見たいと思っているか？What do you want to see?
（世界の）問題を解決するデザイン。Design to solve problems of the world.
（世界の）機能美なデザイン。functional beauty design.
（加えて）デザインの背景・文化・風土・民族・慣習もみたい。 I would like to see the design background, culture, climate, ethnicity, customs
そんな思いで、今回はロンドンに行ってきたのでレポートしますね。I went to London this time so I will report it.

The medical museum is also interesting. Old days, Medical care is a life-saving job…
The science museum was also interesting. I have a design engineer since long ago.

海外が別に進んでいるわけではないが…って言いたいところですが、僕の体感としては、デザインは文化や民度と密接に関わると思うので、実際問題、随分差がついてしまっているなあと感じます。 単純にデザインで驚きたい、すごいって思いたい！その驚きを自分の次の仕事に活かしたい！ Design closely relates to culture and civilization. There is much difference. It is sophisticated. I just want to be surprised by design, I want to think that it is amazing! I want to make use of that surprise to my next job!
