One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned since moving to Asheville and becoming part of the Blue Ridge Hemp Co. team is self-care, through various methods.

Will has been a huge advocate from day one to make sure that, in all areas, each and every member of our team takes care of ourselves so that we can best contribute to each day.

Seeing every team member practice self-care in their own ways and watching how it has positively affected them has been such a blessing to me.

I really look up to our team and am thankful that we all hold one another accountable for growth.

A lot of times, self-care can be summed up quite simply as a means of taking care of one’s self; however, that can look very different to many people.

For me, my self-care regimen consists of meditating upon waking up, showering and feeling refreshed while putting my makeup on to start my day, maintaining a healthy diet, and making sure that my home is clean and tidy so my mind can be at ease when I come home after a long day. My self care regimen also consists of keeping up with exercising regularly, including by practicing yoga, since that practice is my form of church.

While I consider all of these activities forms of practicing self-care, they are all surface-level.

The real self-care that needs to be taken into account is self-love.

It’s easy to do things that make us feel better physically, but it’s so crucial to make sure that our mental and spiritual health is taken into consideration, especially when it comes to self-care.

An important way to practice self-care through self-love is by making sure that you’re surrounding yourself with good people, not people who suck the energy out of you and leave you feeling depleted.

If you’re like me, you enjoy helping people and believing in them; but if the relationship is one-sided, that can detrimentally affect your self-love and interfere with your self-care.

One very unhealthy habit that I have grown comfortable with is seeking validation from others to feel good about myself.

This is the total opposite of what self-care is all about — key word being SELF.

No one else is going to help you care for yourself if you don’t believe that you are most important!

Love yourself like your life depends on it.
