On April 2nd at 8am ET, tickets for Avengers Endgame were finally put on sale and were met with record breaking sales. Endgame is the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s Avengers Infinity War and the overall conclusion of the first 22 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Below you can watch the special trailer that was dropped in honor of tickets going on sale, revealing the most footage we’ve seen so far from the top secret plot.

While it’s no surprise that tickets went fast for opening night, I don’t think anyone was expecting it to shatter records so quickly in only the first hours of being on sale. People flooded to ticket sites like Fandango, Atom Tickets, and AMC to make their purchases with many experiencing delays stuck in a “in line queue” screen and some being forced to make the purchase in person at the theater after AMC’s site crashed from the massive overload of traffic.

Already in the first hour, there were three times as many tickets sold in comparison to the first hour that Infinity War tickets were on sale. After only six hours of being on sale, Endgame decimated Fandango’s first day pre sale record that was previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s estimated right now that the film is going to open to a smashing $900 million worldwide at the box office, that would be the biggest opening weekend ever for a movie. With that kind of momentum, it could tackle 2009’s Avatar and take the title of largest grossing movie ever. It is safe to say that the hype surrounding this film is unprecedented, not even the re-emergence of the Star Wars franchise broke these kind of records.

Now of course, since tickets for opening night sold out so quickly, some people that purchased tickets have turned right around and put them on Ebay for outrageous prices. These range anywhere from $10,000 to one person even selling them for $100,000 to “snap away” his student debt.

Is this going to be a movie worth $100,000 to see? We’ll find out when the film is released on April 26th.
