Comment sections on some web sites scare the hell out of me.

Knowing how many of the commenters are likely American, seeing the abject ignorance on display, thinking about how most of those people get their information (social media and television news media), and what kind of decisions they’re likely to make in life and politics… as Good Will Hunting once said, “It sure ain’t good.”

Not talking about this…

“The Chargers rock, bro!”

“Yur an idiot.”

…or this…

“That *&^@! on Facebook who left her kid in the car should be raped!”

“Your an idiot.”

…or this…

“Dude you don’t need that fancy stuff, Olive Garden is the best Italian food you can get.”

“Yer an idiot!”

I’m talking about people who: do not understand their rights on a fundamental level; do not understand what the roles of the police and military are (and aren’t) on a fundamental level; do not understand how government works on a fundamental level; do not have even a basic understanding of science or history beyond what’s shown on “The Science Channel” and “The History Channels” (what a f-ing joke… history in name only); who do not understand many of the things an educated adult is suppose to understand, ad infinitum. And by educated I don’t mean college, I mean high school.

People want America to be “Great” again? Turn off your TV, step away from the comments section (and/or Twitter), and start reading. All of us.

From what I can see, it’s total mental midgetry everywhere we look. YouTube is probably the worst offender of intelligence and general sensibilities. Talk about a way to ruin otherwise good videos… the large majority of commenters on YouTube have their heads so far up their arses they’ve proverbially turned themselves inside out, showing the pure ignorance and sometimes lack of humanity on the inside. If ever the cliche “those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” can find a home, it will be in the commenting sections of most social media sites (and probably sports sites, but my life is way to short so I never check those).

The only comment sections on the internet that give me some hope are found in places like this, the New York Times (non-political crap), and a few others. But yes, we do have to be careful not to seek only reinforcement and like-minded people, and we do have to self-moderate when dealing with comment sections. Dangerous places, those.
