“Play the opening like a book, the middlegame like a magician, and the endgame like a machine.”

- Rudolph Spielmann

The classical research about the origin of Chess concentrated on investigating written and archaeological evidence resulting in opinions about Indian, Persian or Chinese origin of the game. The available evidence was, however, not sufficient for a convincing theory. So the question about the origin of Chess still has to be considered open.

Believed however, in majority is the spread of this wonderfully addictive insaning game centered from India.

“Chaturanga”, the initial name of the game. Interesting isn’t it? It’s always good to know more about the moves as you play, but better is to know the game.

As Arabs took over Persia, the void of ‘ch’ and ‘ga’ syllables in the language named the game as it is known now, “Shatranj”!

‘Shah-maat’ the move for checkmate was named in the Arabian era. I was amused to know the meaning of this word people use world wide, ‘The king is helpless’ and I always believed it meant the king is dead.

Thereafter like any other madness, the game spread in the European countries and as of now it forms the largest community of players of this game.

Modern moves in the game teaches all about the formations and the placements, but one can never decipher the proven way to win the game simply because it doesn’t exist, it never can, it never will. That’s the beauty or the mystery hidden in those 64 squares.

Very often you must have heard, mightier than the sword is the pen. Well, it’s the ultimate truth for chess as well, just the pen is replaced by pawn.

No chess piece has comparable value, it’s the move the player makes that decides their worth.

So many matches I’ve lost behind the queen, and won so many with the mighty pawns. It’s beautiful how this game single handedly covers so much truth about life and complexity of each decision we make.

One bad move and all 50 good ones nullifies.

Differ, deceive, defeat!

Life’s all about not letting any of your opponent say to you — ‘Checkmate!’
