Halloween is on its way. If you like board games, that means it’s time for spooky and scary games.

But what should you play this Halloween season? What’s new and exciting?

I put together this list of 11 awesome board games, perfect for halloween, that you can probably at a game store near you, right now.

You can see all of them in this video. Or, you can read the script below.

(For a 2014 list, click here.)

Dead of Winter

The zombies have arrived. And so has winter.

Players work together to fend off the punishing cold and hordes of walkers as they try to survive.

To win, players have to complete an overall objective that’s difficult on it’s own. But they also have to complete their own sub-objectives. And one player might be a traitor.

Add to that plot cards that force players into real, moral choices, and Dead of Winter is the board game equivalent of a Walking Dead episode.

Betrayal at House on the Hill

Betrayal at House on the Hill drops players into the middle of a horror movie. Explore a creepy old mansion until someone sets off the evil.

When this happens, the board state determines which horror the players encounter.

One player becomes the monster. The rest either have to kill the beast or escape the house to win.

Legendary

Upper Deck’s ‘Legendary’ system offers three gritty possibilities for Halloween play.

The Dark City expansion for the original game focusses on the darkest heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe.

The company has also released standalone Legendary games set in the worlds of the Alien and Predator movie series. If you get both the alien and predator games, you can even play them against each other.

One Night Ultimate Werewolf

One Night Ultimate Werewolf packs all the fun of classic Werewolf into just five minutes.

Players take random, secret roles that align them with the werewolf or villager team. During the night phase, werewolves learn each other’s identities, and villagers get small bits of information.

During the day phase, the group debates which player to kill. The player with the most votes dies. If they’re a werewolf, the villagers win. Otherwise, the werewolves win.

Elder Sign

This game pits players against Lovecraftean horrors as they attempt to stave off the arrival of grotesque elder gods.

Players travel to corrupted locations and roll dice as they attempt to find the Elder Signs they need to avert the apocalypse. But, each time they fail, they lose health or sanity.

Along the way, players gather items, learn occult knowledge and recruit allies to aid them in their fight.

Mysterium

Due for U.S. release this month, Mysterium challenges players to discover the mystery of a murder through cryptic clues.

One player takes the role of the ghost and gives players colorful, art-filled cards. The rest of the players try to interpret these clues to deduce who killed the ghost, where and with what weapon.

Are you sharp enough to save this soul?

The X-Files

New this year from IDW, this game lets players relive the creepy first three seasons of the X-Files.

Up to four players take the role of agents as they race around the country, closing cases and picking up pieces of the broader conspiracy.

But one player takes the role of the Cigarette Smoking Man, who works to wound the agents and derail their investigations.

The truth is out there. Can you find it before it’s too late?

Nightfall

In this deck-builder, the sun has set forever. Unleashed by eternal night, vampires, werewolves and other horror creatures have emerged to do battle with each other — on your behalf.

Martial your forces to inflict more wounds on your opponents than they can inflict on you. The least-wounded player at the end of the game, wins.

Zombie Dice

In this quick and simple dice game, players take the role of brain-hungry zombies.

Take turns rolling dice and deciding if you want to score the brains you’ve captured that turn, or press your luck. If you get shotgunned three times, lose all progress from the turn.

First player to eat 13 brains wins.

Mansions of Madness

Something’s rotten in Arkham, Massachusetts. Players take the role of investigators who explore a mansion, fight monsters and uncover clues to that help them understand their current mystery.

But they’re not just playing against the game. One player takes the role of the keeper and controls the minions of madness.

Can the players figure out what’s going on before they die — or go insane?

City of Horror

The zombie apocalypse has arrived, and you just want to survive the night.

Players move their survivors around the board in search of safety and vaccines, but their biggest obstacle might be other survivors.

Zombies don’t attack at random. Instead, players vote on who dies during most attacks.

Can you make it to morning with more vaccinated survivors than anyone else?

There you have it. That’s 11 horror-themed board games for you to play this Halloween season.
