Dating Sucks When You Live Abroad
Dating is tough, but doing it as an expat is even tougher
I am extremely privileged to have lived in 4 different countries in my early and now-late 20’s.
For the first half of my 20’s I was single for 3.5/5 years of it. Therefore, you can imagine that I was quite experimental in dating.
While I learned a lot about being single in my early 20’s, I also learned that dating is difficult. Really difficult.
But it is especially a unique experience to date when you know you are not permanently settled in one place. A different set of challenges and benefits come with this transient lifestyle.
Somehow along the way, I met my person on this journey, but it was hard at times, especially when my best friends from back home were moving on to the next chapter after meeting their forever or long-term partners. In some ways I felt stuck and behind where I should be in my life.
While there were times when I really struggled with my self-confidence and questioned my desirability, I wouldn’t trade the experience of dating abroad for anything.
