Tokyo Disneyland Celebrates 2020 Groundbreaking Expansion
Today Oriental Land Company had the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tokyo Disneyland expansion which is expected to open in 2020. This starts the construction of the 75 billion yen (675 million dollars) project which OLC is calling the largest investment at Tokyo Disney Resort since the 2001 opening of Tokyo DisneySea.
The project will include a Beauty and the Beast area featuring a trackless E-ticket attraction, a new theater, shop, and restaurant (similar to Gaston’s Tavern at Magic Kingdom). It will also include a Minnie Mouse greeting facility in ToonTown , and a Big Hero 6 Baymax ride in Tomorrowland with the same ride system as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree at DCA. A new popcorn bucket shop will also be added to Tomorrowland.
This expansion has already closed the Grand Circuit Raceway and will close Star Jets in Tomorrowland later this year. Tomorrowland will shrink in size with the expansion of the new Beauty of the Beast area.
