So as we know Legends of Runeterra (LoR) for short from now on. Is a digital card game put out by Riot games for mobile devices. Who is Riot games you ask? Yeah Riot games is the folks that put out that league of legends game. While the game is probably fine I do think there are glaring flaws that MUST be addressed in order to stay afloat. They need only look as far as perennial allstar Magic the Gathering (mTg) from now on, to be able to throw some corks into their currently sinking ship. Here are some bullet points to discuss.

point ONE- GET A CARD DESIGN TEAM:

So first thing is first. Riot games is a video game company, while magic The gathering is a card game company. Now maybe I’m just an old fuddy-duddy but I for one do not want to play a game made by coders and graphic designers, the flaws below further exemplify this problem.

NUMBER TWO: FIX COMBAT

Man, wow, trying to attack in legends Of Runeterra is a confusing mess. For starters you only attack every other turn which means 50% of the time you can’t even attack. This leads the game to have a very defensive turtling mindset where it is almost impossible to push through. Magic on the other hand has had a simple combat step from the get go.

The Attack

You may announce one attack during your main phase. After you announce an attack, only fast effects may be used until the end of the attack; no sorcery may be cast and no new enchantments, creatures, artifacts, or land may be put into play.

-23-

Attacking creatures are considered tapped as soon as the attack is declared, so you may not use special abilities during the attack if they require you to tap the creature. Defending creatures are not tapped. It is important to note that attacking creatures can only attack your rival. They may not attack your rival’s creatures — though your rival’s creatures can attempt to block them. They may not attack each other or you.

The turn sequence for an attack is as follows:

1) Player Declares Attack
2) Opponent Declares Defense
3) Fast Effects
4) Damage Dealing

Why fix something that wasnt broken Riot games, why. Please take some of your coders (who do a great job on league so I know they can do it) and wholly revamp combat, that will bring players in in Droves.

step THREE : free spells are you kidding me how do you not know free spells are bad.

Now I am first to admit that magic The gathering has had a few minor design kerfuffles, usually these involve spells that don’t cost any mana: here are some examples below

So it was really shocking when lOR decided to go ahead and break their own game from the get-go with their own free spell:

Not only is it free but it adds infinite copys to your deck in the end for even more free spells. This was nothing but a bad idea.

And in summation, summary 4

why cant i use mana to level up my champs.

Magic the gathering for over a decade has known the key to being able to level a creature. using mana like any normal wizard would

Simple. throw on two mana four times and bam islandwalk. In runeterra though it is like this

straight up rediculous. EIGHT CARDS?!?! I GOTTA DRAW EIGHT CARDS WHILE YOURE OUT.

This could have easily been a one mana level up to flip this cowboy. seriously.

There we go folks, if we dont get Riot games to fix legends of Runeterra it is going to go the way of countless other failed card games like seventh seas and Legend of the Five Rings.

Lets all hope they listen.
