FaZe Clan gets a SNL-inspired show on Twitch

This story about threats to tradition, boiled down, in 1:23 minutes.

What’s the fuss?

The second most-buzzworthy esports team in the world is launching the first variety show dedicated to Internet culture, formally going head-to-head with traditional media.

The situation

When FaZe Clan began 11 years ago, they were just a bunch of skilled Call of Duty players posting their clips to YouTube.

FaZe Clan is now waging war against traditional TV with the announcement of a “Saturday Night Live”-style series tailor made for Gen Z audiences.

Boiling it down

Younger generations are more inclined to pick up the controller or spend time on the Internet rather than watching TV.

Saturday Night Live has taken a steep hit, seeing the lowest ratings in its 47+ year history just late last year.

  • That’s not to say that SNL is completely dead with the younger 18–49 year old demographic, with the show seeing ratings bumps with certain guest stars.
  • Nonetheless, unFaZed potentially presents the start of a trend that could bring down SNL for good.
