An Introduction to Boinkology

Tell someone that you write about sex, and chances are they’ll assume one of the following things to be true:

  1. You write about your own sexual exploits.
  2. You review sex toys.
  3. You write a sex advice column.
  4. You write erotica.

Now, all of these things are fine, but they’re not the sum total of what it means to write about sex. Yes, writing to titillate and teach people how to have better sex are both important endeavors—but sexuality, as a subject matter, extends far beyond those two things.

Enter Boinkology. A space to examine the intersection of sex and tech, Boinkology steps away from arousal and takes a look at the way sexuality is transforming technology—and the way technology is transforming the way we experience, learn about, and explore sex.

How do sex toy companies develop new products? Is Twitter or Facebook a better platform for teaching teens about safer sex? Has the internet really transformed us into a nation of porn addicts? And what has new media done to transform the world’s oldest profession? These questions—and many, many more—will all be addressed here in Boinkology 101. I hope you’re ready to take some notes.
