A poem inspired by William Steig
A break in the road
Two paths, both alike in appearance
A gypsy stands before you
2 pence buys you a fortune
Curiosity tells you to pay
The gypsy flashes you a crocodile’s smile
She points to the right
The path of mundane travel
You will waste more time than gained
She points to the left
The path of adventure
You take it without hesitation
Along the way, you cross a pond
An ally calls your ear
“Arm yourself!” your ally calls
A spear thrust in your hands
“Thieves that stalk these very grounds
will kill you if they can.”
From this point on
you fight your way
from house to field to town
All the while handing out
The treasures that you found
Your travel ends
like all tales do
An abandoned castle home
There you find a sweetly love
that you can call your own
