Why Divergent Didn’t Work as a Movie

Be brave.

For me, Divergent didn't translate well to the big screen because you couldn't get into Tris’ psyche unlike if you read the books, and I think that’s one of the most vital things that makes up the Divergent trilogy. You need to be able to get into the mind of Beatris Prior to fully appreciate it. Especially that she switched factions, which in their world basically means shifting of your own ideas and attitude. As a standalone movie, though, I think it did pretty well.
