It’s not that Kyou is antisocial, it’s just that there’s people outside. And why would he want to leave his house? He has his computers and his coffee here. Besides, the closer he is to his setup, the more efficiently he can watch over his people. Most of his attention goes to Brannigan Genovese, and has for years, because Brannigan does things like buying up real estate from the Irish Mob. No matter how recklessly Brannigan behaves, Kyou protects him from every threat, whether it’s rivals messing with his permits or attempts on his life.

Regardless of Brannigan’s complaints, Kyou keeps their relationship strictly virtual. He has enough enemies that being able to ID him could put Brannigan’s life in danger. But Bran’s latest real estate venture has pissed off the wrong people, and Kyou has no choice but to offer protection in person rather than from afar. Another reason Kyou stayed away: he suspected that after meeting in person, they wouldn’t want to give each other up. Assisted by the three men he trusts, Kyou knows he can keep Brannigan safe. But can he keep himself safe from Brannigan’s seduction?

Kyou is a caffeine-addicted control freak. He’s driven by the fear of missing a threat to someone he cares about, which puts a strain on his health and, ironically, his relationships. Despite this, Kyou willingly drags himself away from his computers to spend time with Brannigan in person. His behavior highlights how quality time can strengthen a relationship, while underscoring how making a relationship work requires being intentional. Genuinely enjoying developing a relationship in person, Kyou becomes determined to stop using his protection of others as a shield to block the outside world.

Brannigan already knows he’ll make questionable decisions to get Kyou’s attention. Once Brannigan realizes that any interaction with Kyou is the best part of his day, meeting him in person is imperative. When he believes Kyou doesn’t want to meet out of a lack of trust, he finds it intolerable. When he realizes it’s out of Kyou’s drive to protect him, his heart melts. Brannigan patiently addresses each of Kyou’s fears to resolve the sources of his anxiety. He understands that his own recklessness adds to Kyou’s worries and resolves to plan the best way to achieve his goals with Kyou’s help to better avoid danger. Brannigan is very dedicated to making sure they have a chance to enjoy everything life has to offer with each other.

5 stars! Recommended for anyone who likes brilliant and bossy businessmen, sassy and sleep deprived hackers, and criminal found families.
