After destroying the Quarter Quell arena, Katniss is brought to District 13, that no one really knew existed. Under the leadership of 13’s President Coin, Katniss joins the fight to not only save Panem of the Capitol’s President Snow, but to also save Peeta from his grasps. With all of this on the line, Katniss becomes “the Mockingjay”, the face of the rebellion. So, with the help of Finnick, Beetee, Haymitch, and her friends and family, she spreads her wings to save Peeta, the other tributes, and to help move a nation by her courage.

— Before you read know there WILL be spoilers —

Hunger Games “Mockingjay” is a 1 book, 2 movie special, and I am grateful for that. “Mockingjay” part 1 and 2 both included many details, but they left out a few more than I could handle.

In “Mockingjay part 1” there were just a few differences. When Katniss became the mockingjay she had conditions which in the book were…

  1. ) Her family gets to keep the cat, Buttercup
  2. ) Both her and Gale get to go hunting above ground
  3. ) Peeta and the other tributes are to receive pardons after the rebels win the war
  4. ) and last but not least, she kills Snow

Yet, in the movie all she says that she wants is

  1. ) Her family keeps the cat, and
  2. ) Peeta and the other tributes receive pardons

She never mentions in the movie about hunting or wanting to kill Snow herself(well she does say that she wants to kill Snow, but that not until later).

Besides that everything else was good besides the differences in the bombing. Peeta warned Katniss over live television that District 13 was going to be bombed, and he was right, so Coin set off the alarms and everyone had to go WAY underground in order to survive the threat. Katniss gets to the holding are when she realizes that Prim, her little sister, isn’t there. So she runs up to the protective doors and see’s her with Gale, and the cat, Buttercup. They aren’t quite to the doors yet, but they are on their way, yet the men closing the doors aren’t holding them open for Gale and Prim(for safety precautions). So Katniss forces herself between the doors, and with men noticing, the doors stop, and open a little more to let all 3 get through. In the movie it’s the same concept except Katniss escapes the doors and runs to find them and when they get to the doors they all barely get through. Everyone is fine in both the book and the movie, but if you’re going to put that in there at least put it in right.

Part 2 had a few more differences, major ones consisting of, Prim talking to Peeta instead of one of his other friends to calm him down, and Katniss sneaking onto a plane to get to the front lines of war.

First of all, in the book, Delly, one of Peeta’s old school friends, went in to talk to Peeta, and attempt to calm him down about his rages on Katniss(post saving from the capitol), but in the movie they sent in Prim instead. No major difference here, but they just out a whole (minor) character.

The 2nd biggest difference in probably the whole series was about Katniss sneaking onto a plane. In both the movie and the book Katniss didn’t want anything more than to get to the battle, but how she did it was completely different. In the book Katniss trained hard to earn her spot in the “Star Squad”, but on the movie she simply snuck onto a medicine plane and rode her way to the front lines of battle. Without going into a lot of detail this is all I can say, but it is a major difference considering that it took her weeks to train for war in the movie, rather than the 2 minutes it took walking onto a plane in the movie.

Throughout this series, I would have to say I liked to movies better, and I rarely say that. The books were fantastic, but the movies just gave the perfect amount of suspense through the visuals of everything that I couldn’t exactly picture in my head. Out of everything I’ve read in this project, I would recommend this series to you the most. This series, books and movies, were just well written, well casted, and very well put together. The “Hunger Games” series, 10/10. It gives you a good mix of romance, suspense, and action. So if you’re into all of that this is definitely the series for you.
