Severe, bitter troubles

“Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.” Psalm 71:20

People often have an acquaintance with severe troubles. No one seems to be exempt from experiencing suffering. Although no one knows all the troubles that others might face, we do know that It rains on the just and the unjust.

A belief in God does not exempt one from suffering nor does unbelief protect one from troubles. God is just, compassionate, and loving whether we are experiencing troubles or not. God does not change.

During a time of suffering, a time that all may encounter, the best and only response is to worship God amid the suffering.

We are living in a difficult time. Are we on the brink of a nuclear war? My friend told me recently that she is afraid. My response to her was to not be afraid but for her to just keep her eyes on Jesus.

She said, “Yes, but that was difficult.” Yes, during this time of suffering it is difficult to accept that our only response is to worship God. But ultimately that is all we have and all we need.

Why does God allow people to suffer is a mystery that God alone can answer although His Word has clues for us…
