Each creator of any crowdfunding campaign faces this question: how is best to promote their project on social media? Which channel works better?

From our vast experience of helping successful creators, we look at how the most popular social networks are more suitable for targeting specific audiences.

Facebook

There are many opinion leaders on Facebook, and they are willing to tag other people. Word of mouth is an effective way to build a network of loyal contacts. Facebook is very useful for B2B services and platforms.

It is a good place to find those who can help with promotion: information partners, influencers. Facebook is the favorite social network of many artists. Creative projects that involve movies and books should definitely take note of this.

Instagram

Instagram has a lot of young active users, potential buyers and like-minded people — and, of course, influencers. This is a great platform for projects that can show beautiful visual content.

Among them are often projects related to art, design, cafes and coffee shops, pastry shops, bakeries, cheese factories and farms, as well as healthy living that are continuing to turn heads.

YouTube

From our experience, YouTube is very well suited for scientific or popular science projects, social projects, and movies. Generally, YouTube channel is worth starting for project with any topic.

Many media experts and creators of crowdfunding projects predict that video content is about to get more attention than texts and even beautiful images.

That’s why we always recommend that authors prepare a 2–3 minute long video for their project. It is helpful not only for the design of a crowdfunding page. You can then use it for promotion on social networks. People tend to like videos that are lively, aesthetic and meaningful.

Vkontakte

If your audiences speak Russian, you have to be present on VKontakte. You can look at it as Russia’s version of Facebook. It has a lot of active fan communities that formed around specific subjects, and most notably — entertainment.

Crowdfunding projects related to games, comics, arts, and music get a large part of funding coming from Vkontakte groups. Usually Vkontakte promotion is enough for projects that have long had their own loyal audience.

Multi-channel social strategy

There are many book-related projects. Depending on genre, target audiences for book projects can be found anywhere from Facebook and Vkontakte to Instagram.

Maintaining channels on several social platforms is a good idea. You will soon see the audience sentiment. However, be careful not to spray efforts on maintaining communities everywhere at once, if only your project does not involve a large audience with varied interests.

If the the project has a narrow niche, it is natural to focus on the social network with the majority of the target audience.
