To quote Arvind Gupta from Indie Bio, “Humans are evolving from Homo-sapiens to Homo-consilio,” meaning “Designed man.” We are entering a time when any human will have the ability to be a super hero.

Whether it is designed humans through cells like our company NextBiotics or computers/robotics on the body like our portfolio companies ROAM Robotics, Gravity or Jetpack Aviation, technology is solving problems that is pushing the evolution of human beings. Computers on the body or programmable cells is going to change what it means to be a human. We will run faster, jump higher, live longer and be smarter. There are companies today building breakout technology in human Augmentation in order to make, what others believe to be impossible.

Inside of this Deep Tech field, there are certain startup ideas we want to find.

Mobility

The rise of the cheap electric scooter would fall into this bracket: It’s a cheap, light weight method to give you super powers, and solves a huge problem for commuting. I have an electric bike that assists me and makes me feel like Lance Armstrong. There is so much that can happen with mobility, focus on making older people still feel mobile, focus on kids being able to dunk basketballs, focus on making the best athletes even better.

Regenerative healing

Wolverine from the X-men’s power was “Heal Fast,” this seems so attainable, yet constantly out of our reach of science. But now, with CRISPR, we are closer than we have ever been. We need better medical super powers! Long story short, I want to be wolverine.

Longevity

Let’s live longer and find out how that changes society. First we need to live long enough to make that possible. There are many fantastic companies attempting this in different ways, whether by Cryo freezing brains, or modifying DNA, but more brain power needs to focus on the longevity of life.
