There’s nothing like a good old myth, isn’t it? Well, there is. Better than a myth is another one, and another and a bunch of them that follow.

PS We’re not going to get into very obvious ones which we’ve already talked about previously. Like,

Companies wont hire bootcampers — They will.

Online bootcamps don’t deliver — They do.

Bootcamps are not worth the time/money — They are.

Since that’s out of the way now, let’s bust some coding bootcamp myths!

Myth #1 — Bootcamps are only good when learning Web Development.

This has to be the most echoed belief that people have been holding onto for a long time.

With the overwhelming growth in usage of electronic devices and e-commerce, web development has made it into the market as one of the fastest growing and most sought-after field.

Let me elaborate it at the cost of sounding geeky. To appease the Tech Equilibrium, the theory of supply and demand is seen in action here. The more the demand for web developers in the market, the more you’ll see bootcamps offering courses to suffice that need.

So simply put, more bootcamps are offering Web Dev courses because more people are looking to join these courses.

What’s bothersome is when people associate coding bootcamps with only Web development.

Yes, bootcamps are the best coaches for web development. But implying that they are best at only that is plain naive.

There are numerous other programs that coding bootcamps offer like big data, machine learning, UX/UI design, digital marketing, sales, product management, cyber security, data science (to name a few). And some bootcamps even specialize in these courses like AI bootcamps or data science bootcamps. There are umpteen such coding bootcamps, and all you need to do is look!

That’s right!

Myth #2 — Coding Bootcamps are crazy expensive!

No. They aren’t.

But if you’re specifically looking for expensive programs, you’ll find many! Instead, look for programs that suit you. Specially, in financial context.

We don’t simply claim that there’s a bootcamp for everyone, we mean it.

Here’s a simple breakdown of the payment options you’ll have when enrolling in a bootcamp,

  1. Full Upfront Payment
  2. Installments
  3. Study now, Pay later (Student Loan)
  4. ISA (Income Share Agreement)
  5. FREE

Yes, you read it right. There are bootcamps that offer free programs as well. You can look them up here. And the quality of their training isn’t compromised either.

But going back to the previous options, there are bootcamps that require you to make the full payment upfront as well, but more and more bootcamps have started to offer deferred tuition. Or have introduced other payment methods that make it feasible for students to afford the training.

SNPL (Study Now, Pay Later) is another such helpful payment practice which enables students to apply for student loans while they are studying in a bootcamp. Whereas, ISA (Income Share Agreement) offers students a chance to finish their course and start paying a percentage of their income only after they’ve landed a well-paying job.

Basically, you could be paying anything between $0 to $21,000 and around anytime be it your first day at a bootcamp or the day you receive you first paycheck. You’ve got many options to choose from as per your convenience. Simply, put your finger on a budget and look for bootcamps accordingly. It doesn’t have to be crazy expensive, after all!

Myth #3 — Bootcamps over-hype Job Assistance and Networking

Your journey at a bootcamp will begin and end with programming, yet there will be a lot of network building along the way. Why you ask? Well, because the more you become familiar with the people of the industry, the more comfortable you’ll get.

Besides getting comfortable, you also learn a lot more about what kind of opportunities wait for you, what are the expectations of employers and how you see yourself fit into the picture.

But if you’re looking for only the tangible virtue of it (the offer letter) to come land right in your hand, then wake up! You’ve got to work for it and learn to utilize the exposure you’ve been given through network building.

So, that brings us to the end of this episode. We’ve gone through and cleared some very common misconceptions that many people believe in. But you, on the other hand, are now informed.😎

Ignorance isn’t bliss. Period.
