While everyone is becoming increasingly interested in learning how to Work From Home (WFH) and are trying to practice the best techniques, let’s explore something more interesting for a change — how to Code From Home.

//This article is important because,

1. Your coding journey must not halt.
2. You should continue learning what you love no matter where/what.
3. Do you really want another WFH article?

You could be an avid coder, a newbie or someone who hasn’t even begun coding yet (but why?), what you ought to know is that Code From Home can be a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

Code Newbies be too new.

While most code veterans have been practicing CFH for as long as they can remember, newbies may find coding by themselves quite challenging. And that is exactly why we have solutions that will make sure that they are not coding all by themselves, even in the comfort of their homes.

Too often, e-learning platforms face a lot of criticism for being boring, non-interactive and symbolic for ‘one size fits all’ fashion of teaching. But these are quite messed up accusations since e-learning is a broad spectrum of various methods of learning. A documented explanation of a 5th grade science lesson, a certified 12 weeks online course in data analytics and everything in between accounts for e-learning. So let’s clear the air, e-learning is not the solution, but it’s a huge book with the solution in it somewhere and we need to find it. Everyone is allowed to have their own unique solution because ‘one size does not fit all’.

Some of us are visual learners, some are readers and some are practical learners and we all define the ‘perfect method to learn’ differently.

Coming back to the matter at hand, how do you efficiently learn to code from home? Its quite simple, just find an online coding course, right? No. This technically has to be the last thing on your list and we’ll cross the bridge when we get there. Let’s start where we must,

Plan what you want to study and why

Of course coding, but let’s specify what exactly you’re going to learn. Know if you want to learn a new programming language, practice the one you already know, or study and master a tech stack. To meet a specific target you need to set it first.

Decide a time-frame

Goals that are not bound by a time constraint are hardly achieved or always remain on the to-do list, so make sure you peruse your goals and decide on a deadline. A good practice would be to give yourself an extended deadline as well, since you usually begin with over-saturated motivation and it vaporizes quite fast.

Make up a routine

As simple as it sounds, it proves to be one of the best practices to inculcate self-discipline in yourself. They say that you need to be comfortable in your learning environment; what they don’t say is that when you become too comfortable, there is no learning in that environment. Home is comfortable, but it may soon get too comfy to study.

That’s why you need to make a routine. Wake up at say, 9 am just like you would if you had a class and don’t get distracted during your study hours. Also, try to choose a spot to sit in and don’t leave it unless you’re done for the day. (Of course, tiny healthy breaks don’t count)

Find a Buddy

The learning pyramid

According to the learning pyramid (researched and created by the National Training Laboratories in Betel, Maine), the long-term retention rate of a topic you learned and discussed is around 50% which is way higher than a mere 5% of a typical lecture. Moreover, when you teach someone what you learnt, the retention rate shoots up to 90%. So having a study partner will not only keep you motivated but also help you learn better.

Begin the hunt

Let’s cross, the bridge has come!
Now that you have prepared yourself and know exactly what you’re looking for, it’ll be a walk in the park to find you a suitable online course. Log on to bootcamps.tech, enter your specifications and apply the online filter. You will see a personalized list of coding bootcamps offering your desired course.

Why learn from online coding bootcamps and not just any online course? Because, coding bootcamps know what they’re doing (at least, most of them). Unlike pre-recorded online coding courses, bootcamps offer interactive and immersive programs that help you learn as per your pace and capacity. They will provide you with live sessions with mentors, give tasks to complete and keep your progress in check. All you need to do is let bootcamps.tech find you the right coding bootcamp.

The best time to begin is NOW.

When people ask when they should start to learn coding, the answer will always be yesterday. It can’t be stressed enough. Code is the language of innovation. Future is written in nothing but code. If you want to design the future, you must code. But mind you, coding is a craft that you must practice regularly in order to remain a skilled craftsman/craftswoman. So begin now and stop never!

Yours technically,
