Local E-Commerce

Thrift shops offer affordable items and promote sustainability by giving used items a second life often for charitable causes.How can we help thrift shops promote themselves, acquire merch and offer commerce services online?

We divided our initial thoughts into three main groups using the CSD Matrix. The first group was about things we know or understand, the second group was about things we assume, and the last group was about things we’re uncertain about.

We have identified the focal points for our survey and interview questions. They revolve around the following key concept:

  • People all ages shop either online or in stores.
  • Most of our users have shopped at thrift shops before.
  • Over 75% of our answers shop second hand due to low cost options.
  • Over 75% of our answers say they would consider donating to help others.
  • They would donate without any type of reward in exchange.

Following our surveys and interviews with the stakeholder, it’s clear that leveraging her existing thrift store to enhance her eCommerce presence and encourage clothing donations is crucial for increasing exposure and community impact. By prioritizing eCommerce integration, she can tap into a wider audience and offer the convenience of online shopping to her customers. Simultaneously, establishing a streamlined donation process will not only reduce profit loss but also foster a sense of community involvement, further enhancing her brand’s reputation and sustainability efforts.

To better understand Karaya’s direct competitors, we decided to focus on stores within walking distance that could relate to what Karaya offers.

Taking into consideration Karaya’s primary goal, we have decided to create a platform where Karaya’s products can be displayed for sale. Additionally, we have focused on dedicating a section of the website specifically to donations. This approach ensures that both aspects,sales and donations, are given equal attention and visibility.

In summary, our strategic plan for Karaya focuses on two key objectives: enhancing their eCommerce presence to increase sales and creating a dedicated section on their website to facilitate donations. By aligning with Karaya’s goals and promoting community engagement, we aim to drive growth while reinforcing their brand identity as a socially responsible organization.
