The transfer deadline window closed today — with Mark Hughes and Stoke failing to sign any new players.

They also managed to stave off any bids for the current squad — following Jonathan Walters’ transfer request late last night.

It means the club’s net spend is around the breakeven point, with £18m in fees having been spent on Xherdan Shaqiri and Joselu — with the same amount received for the sales of Robert Huth, Asmir Begovic and Steven Nzonzi.

The squad has been topped up with the likes of Ibrahim Afellay, Glen Johnson, Shay Given and Marco van Ginkel.
