Poetry: Significance

We battle for significance in our lives, but do we really know our place?

When we compare ourselves to the universe, we are truly insignificant. Pixabay Comfreak

I was fifteen or sixteen when I wrote this — circa 1966/67

Compare this town to the earth.
Compare this earth to the universe.
Compare me, a little thing at birth.
Could I, an individual, be worse,
In thinking that I have the right
To be compared with all this might?
