What does Medium want from its writers? They’ve sent me two surveys about their writer’s magazine, and as I had muted the magazine, it took me a while to realize what they were asking me about. Of course, technically, I couldn’t tell them about the quality of the magazine because I had never read it. I explained to them (as I have explained many times) that I’m truly not interested in learning to write (I already do write), and that, therefore, I do not read articles about how to write. And I seriously don’t need a writing prompt.
That said, it must be immensely profitable for Medium to start catering to people who want to learn to write rather than to people who already can write. That’s disturbing to me because that means that magazine has lost its major source of reads — readers.
