Enzo’s Monday Motion #139: Lines and Dots #4

In this last blog before my September break I return to the core of animation. A true storyteller is one who tells a convincing story with only the bare minimal.

The Essence

Sometimes you need to strip everything down to the only the necessities in order to regain your focus and find new direction. This deep thought is behind the (design and) animation by Gavin Kosko.

You instantly feel the curiosity and playfulness of a child. Kosko gracefully succeeded in his mission to give life to a very minimal design.

Take Back Control

The complexer the system the more simplistic you need to explain it. Smart data aggregation software Creditflux was in desperate need of such an infomercial.

Gen Design Studio succeeded to accentuate the before and after status of the smart software. The opening scene has an analogue feel filled with chaos. The solution is futuristic and harmonic in a digital scenery. Both worlds really go well together and, not unimportantly, look really nice. My only comment lies within the voice. It feels very old fashioned and reserved. A slightly younger an more vibrant voice could do the trick.

Spacelab

The creative hub Spacelab in Thessaloniki attracts likeminded with an interesting spot.

The complete creative process was under the guidance of DIMENSION³. The motion looks really pure and interesting. I don’t know if (the lack of) a voiceover was a creative or a financial choice, but I miss it. Even though the copy is carefully placed within the composition, it takes too much attention away from the visual story.

Google Conference

To open their conference Google asked director Gunner to come up with a festival opener.

The visual spectacle is clearly driven by music. The symbiose between motion and music is soo strong, thee has to be close contact with the motion (from Marcus Bakke, Ian Sigmon, Nick Forshee) and music composition by Paul Thomaszito. I’m curious how the process went. Big up to the whole team!

Identical Twins

Inspired to explore science from the perspective of toddlers, director duo Clara Lehmann and Jonathan Lacocque discuss epigenetic with their three-year-old identical, twin daughters Lucy and Sophia.

The science behind gene modification is told in an elegant and clear way. It’s also pretty impressive to direct a three year old, so props to the directing parents! Created by Coat of Arms.
