Enzo’s Monday Motion #38: Music Videos
Back in the days when the ‘M” in Mtv still stood for Music, we watched them non stop. Fortunately for Youtube the genre is still alive and kicking. Here are five clips that might even be better than the song itself.
Team of Pro’s
The Chemical Brothers have the skill to surround themselves with great artists. For the song ‘Wide open’ they reached out to Beck for the vocals. Their regular directors duo DOM & NIC came up with the concept of the transforming dancer. Add The Mill to this equation and you have yourself a killer video.

Lowres
Normally we say the higher the resolution the better. Director Michael Fragstein deliberately went the other direction. To get the desired look he fed the 3D scan software PhotoScan poor footage and adjusted the parameters to low values. Thus accentuating the vivid and handmade look.
Inception
Tokyo-born filmmaker Hiro Murai has a passion for dreams. It feels like this inspired him to create an Inception-like world for Childish Gambino’s video Sweatpants. Also a shout out to Varnish FX and the grading of Marc Steinberg.
Lights.. Camera…
In the past GMUNK was famous for his 3D motion graphics. A couple of years ago he made the switch to the real thing, directing videos with light as the main character. For Eric Prydz song ‘Generate’ the concept is all about creating a hypnotic world.
The LED Cubes are built up like a massive Lego set. With programmed light patterns, a 180° circular lens and a set of filters the end result feels like the artistic version of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Blink
Life passes by before you know it. This was the starting point of directors duo Toby and Pete. In a stop motion videoclip we see the life and death of singer Chet Faker as he sings the chorus of ‘Talk Is Cheap’.
