Enzo’s Monday Motion #45: Music Videos #2
We stay in the audio-land with the second edition of Music Videos. From classics to new ones, from unknown artists to the big boys.
Rock it for me
We start of with an oldie which might got it’s inspiration of another golden oldie: Thriller. Don’t expect any MJ, or zombies, but do expect an intro over a minute before the song kicks in. I love the style of the characters and the richness of the world. They might got lost in the latter, since the facial mimics sometimes drop in animation quality. Still a very nice job by McBess.
Fuelled by music
We continue the black & white theme. This time with the clip for electro swing group Caravan Palace where Ugo Gattoni mixes cell animation with 3D. When an army of UFOs invade Paris, the people fight back creating a giant robot which is fuelled by music.
The Big Boys
One music video you couldn’t get around this month was the latest track of Coldplay. In ‘Up&Up’ it’s all about visual tricks. Directors Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia play around with point of view and relative sizes.
Somebody at Prettybird UK made a few extra hours in post production but it’s worth every shot.
Tweaking Imperfection
This clip is all about improvisation and intuition, which is accentuated with a handy cam look and feel. Dutch Director Fons Schiedon and musician Jaimeo Brown worked closely together combining high end technology with tactile, DIY methods. Shout out to production agency Post Panic.
Carte Blanche
When a band gives you carte blanche with a song called ‘Casual party’ it’s all about the eye of the beholder. Props to Band of Horses for choosing this concept and director Ben Fee for convincing them.
