Enzo’s Motion Monday #26: Xmas Countdown
Christmas is only a few days away. Let’s count down with a motion piece a day. (or treat it like you would with a chocolate advent calendar: all in one go).
Lottery winner
The Spanish lottery received their well deserved global attention with their Pixar-level commercial. If you ask me this isn’t the winning ticket. Their Belgium brothers of the Nationale Loterij served a stop motion commercial starring Frosty the Snowman. A killer production by Mortier Brigade.
With well crafted motion I get more excited for the making of than for the original. Same story with this gem: The handmade craftsmanships continuous with the (motion geek alert) particles animation where for a change we don’t see Trapcode Particular in action.
Global meet up?
Was there some secret gathering of Creative Directors for the global Christmas theme? The elderly seem to be popping up in every big campaign! Looking at the spot for German Mail order company Otto, the CD of Heimat Berlin was also present. In their spot “Grandpa” we don’t focus on the person, but on a forgotten old Christmas card. Within the main story they’ve blended nicely the core business of the client. Let’s hope the extremely late delivery isn’t what sticks with the target audience.. ; ) Credits to Psyop for the motion.
Right on the pecker
The Most played card for Christmas in ad land is the guilt trip. Fortunately not every agency plays it like this. Following Gordon Gecko’s motto “greed is good” we see Santa getting an unpleasant visit.
Yearly treat
There’s more humor with the yearly motion gift from animation studio Blue Zoo. Their view on the Christmas spirit: everybody just want more stuff! True to it’s theme they’ve added lot’s of detailed animation’s and jokes. Big up to writer Ben Champion, lead animator Simone Giampaolo and Joe Kinch’s and the rest of the animation team.
The real thing
In the previous Xmas edition I mentioned the work of former Aardman creative Jim Parkin for Harrods. Now it’s time to show the work of the mothership. Their spot is all around the theme that everyone has to endure the same stress of shopping lists and big department stores. This also goes for Rudolf and his friends.
Like I said before: stop motion is more ‘stop for the making of’. Enjoy the behind the scenes where you’ll also discover more about the concept.
