Enzo’s Monday Motion #194: Traditionally I round up the year with my personally curated short-film list. Enjoy the work from tiny private projects to big commercial campaigns and claymation to feature film action scenes.

Hell of a week

Sometimes you already know on Monday it’s going to be a very, very hard week…

New York based multi-talent Damien Bastelica knows every trick in the book. From art direction to illustrations and animations this one-man-band rightfully deserved his spot on the list.

To off piste or not to off piste

France has a huge reputation when it comes to animation schools. Students at the École des Nouvelles Images delivered this little gem about this rather particular Search-And-Rescue team of the French Alps.

Directors Leo Brunel, Loris Cavalier, Camille Jalabert & Oscar Malet hope they earn their 52nd award at next year’s Oscars. Whatever happens, I’m sure we’ll hear more from them in the future.

FOMO

Young Shaun is struggling in the confident, happy world around him.

From one successful graduate to another, director Sam Gainsborough wanted to make a film about the effect of relationships on people’s personalities and their daily life. It’s not only the very interesting mashup between live-action and claymation/stop motion. The latter technique is also a perfect metaphor for the moulding society around us. Deep, clever, interesting and perfectly executed.

Sugar rush

Some lighter material from French directing collective MegaComputeur who are specialized in comedy.

The trio’s strength is finding humor in everyday life. With their own unique style, they keep on bringing a smile to my face.

YONA

Captain Cornell finds himself in a life-threatening situation while fighting in the American civil war of 1860.

It won’t come as a big surprise that this private project is made in France. Directors Gautier Alfirevic & Kevin Rose from Supamonks Studio have found a unique style and story. The way they play around with color palettes is a feast to the eye.

Chinese swag

Nike China delivers a short mashup with a Pulp Fiction descriptive intro and Jacky Chan action-comedy.

Clothes don’t make the man according to W+K Shanghai. You have to earn it. A concept that perfectly matches the Portland brand’s life motto. Riff Raff director Finn Keenan has found a style that appeals to the China audience.

Last Week

December is the party month when everyone loves a drink or two. I serve five shots of the stronger kind
