Finding your metaverse style:
Your how-to-guide on dressing your avatar ahead of Metaverse Fashion Week
Over the next few months and years, as the lines between the digital and physical continue to blur, we’re all going to be spending a lot more time in the metaverse. The exciting thing about this is that within digital worlds, we can express ourselves in entirely new, creative ways than we can in real life, bounded only by the limits of our imagination!
Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) is happening from March 24 to 27 and we are delighted to partner with Decentraland to make this happen.
Visitors will be able to attend virtual fashion shows, after-parties and special events as well as shopping for clothes (both the physical and digital varieties) and generally enjoy a unique immersive experience.
As a part of Metaverse Fashion Week we’ll be hosting some of the biggest names in fashion within Portal connected by Boson Protocol: the metaverse marketplace enabling the sale of physical items as NFTs.
So the big question is: what do you wear to a metaverse fashion show?
For many fashion-forward visitors, this will be their first experience of Decentraland. We previously wrote a guide to what to expect on your first visit to the metaverse. That will help you with the basics, such as how to move your avatar, chat to people around you and get to specific locations.

How to keep your avatar looking the same, every time you visit
The last thing you want to do is get dressed every time you go into Decentraland. Whether or not you are there for Metaverse Fashion Week, you probably want to choose your favourite clothes and keep them rather than leaving it to chance.
So you’ll need an Ethereum wallet. Don’t worry: you don’t need to have any cryptocurrency in the wallet. Visiting Decentraland is free! Your wallet is your unique identifier, like Web2 sites might use a username and password.
If you later decide to buy exclusive wearables, your wallet will be where you keep these and add them to your avatar.
Metamask is the easiest to use. Simply download it from the Chrome Web Store and make sure you keep your secret seed words safe. Remember you won’t be able to access Decentraland on a mobile device!
Once you’ve set up your wallet, enter the url of wherever you want to go in Decentraland (why not visit Portal?) and choose the option “Play Using Your Wallet”. Connect your wallet and on your first visit, you’ll be invited to set up your avatar.
Choosing your wearables
There’s no getting around the fact that the coolest and most cutting-edge wearables cost money, as does anything branded.
To buy these exclusive wearables, you’ll need to visit one of the pop-up shops in Boson Protocol’s fashion district or visit the Decentraland Wearables Marketplace on OpenSea.
Don’t want to splash the cash? You can still create a unique look from the potential thousands of combinations of hairstyles, clothes and accessories that Decentraland offer for free.
The first time you connect your wallet, you’ll be taken to the avatar dressing room where you get to choose the basics such as skin tone, body shape and hairstyle before adding on the fun stuff like clothes, shoes and sunglasses. If you want to tweak your avatar later, you can do this by clicking your avatar in the top right corner and then selecting Settings.
You may want to stand out from the crowd with orange dungarees, knee-high boots, a mohawk and a tiara, or you might want to blend in with a plain polo neck and jeans.
